Want to take my mom for a great ice cream sundae for her bday tomorrow...doesn't have to be a sit-down place or fancy, just looking for ice cream with some quality hot fudge....any suggestions???

  1. Hello Tapioca:
I don't know but does Gelato work?
A NYU Professor had recommended this to me.
The best Gelato in all of Manhattan is

    "GROM"
    2165 Broadway
    (between 76th St & 77th St)
    New York, NY 10024
    Phone: (646) 290-7233

My favorite is the extra dark chocolate. I also recommend anything with hazelnut and chocolate (like nutella).

There's another one like this, but you would have to go to Florence Italy for it.
So I think that is as authentic Italian gelato as you get.
I hope this helps and that she likes Gelato!?

    1. Sorry, I don't know it posted my reply twice.

      1. There are some very good flavors of ice cream along with hot fudge and other sauces at Holey Cream. You can get it all in a donut sandwich too if you want to really indulge...
Of course there is the famous Serendipity and its spinoffs, but you would have to wait for a bit most likely. But, it may be worth it if you want her to go to a "NYC institution" sort of place!

        1. I know we are over the deadline for this post, but wanted to reply for folks searching in the future.

We have become fond of having sundaes at the 5th floor cafe of MoMA every time we hit the museum. They have 2 or 3 flavors and they are non traditional (no hot fudge here).

The house sundae has raspberries, cheesecake and vanilla ice cream and raspberry sorbet.
Another is a praline sort of thing which is also delicious.
I THINK there is also a 3rd option - Im remembering pistacio for some reason.

          Highly recommended.

My favorite sundae/milkshake place used to be the soda fountain at FAO Schwartz, but sadly they closed and opened a candy bar instead. Sigh.
