One of the few foodstuffs that, with a mere mention, elicits a rabid Pavlovian response from ms. rabo.

Tadig seems to be the epitome of Persian comfort food---flat pancakes of crispy rice, smothered by whatever stews are available, or, for homemade versions, left over. Quite delectable.

While chowing down at the Glendale SHAMSHIRI last night, I realized that theirs is the only version I've ever sampled, albeit, about five times. Ms rabo has had only theirs, and the apparently outstanding version made by a former boyfriend's mother **grumble**.

So---the ms. and I would like to sample other renditions. Will travel anywhere, especially to Westwood.

TIA for any leads.

Good restaurants for Tah Dig rank list (the HOMEMADE tah dig by my friend's family beats any of these places any given day, though):

1. Shahrzad (Westwood Blvd.)
2. Javan (Santa Monica Blvd.)
3. Shamshiri Grill (Westwood Blvd.)
4. Darya (Santa Monica Blvd.)
5. Raffi's (Glendale) - caveat: it's been a while since I've been there

Hope this helps

Thanks, JL. Great list.

I like RAFFI's too, but as of my last visit (five months ago), they did not have tadig on the menu any longer.

javan is the best, but would you really should get there is the kash e bademjan - which is greasy heated up eggpant pate in tomatoey sauce w/ whey on the top. grand stuff.

You can (almost) kill two birds with one stone, just pick bademjan as one of the stews to top your tah dig. We got this tah dig from Javan a couple of weeks ago (fesenjan was the other topping) and could not stop eating it.

I'm firmly a partisan of Javan as best westside Persian, but actually the best kashk o'bademjan I've had was a bit further west on Santa Monica, at Darya. Considerably more intense in flavor and richer in texture than Javan's, IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Rabo-great to hear one of my fav dishes on this board! Be in the know, wherever you go try and order either a bread tadiq (made with lavash bread) or a potato tadiq (with slivers of potato...duh). I mean, I get it at home, but they're much more chowish then tradition rice tadiq which can be a bit bland, hence needing the stews (IMHO)
