Pasadena near Convention center if possible
Going to be at a conference in Pasadena soon and will be staying near the Convention center so it would be nice to find something walkable, but we will have a car. Preferably would like something not too far from there.
We're from SD so are used to hearing that the local food sucks but we also know there are always local gems.
Love all kinds of food and could go any price range for dinner.

One of my local favorites is Cafe Verde on Green St. Just a few doors east of there is Malbec. Both are walkable from the convention center area. Probably about a 10-minute walk.

Well, there's Houston's and Ruth's Chris if you want to do a chain.
There's also Azeen's for Afghani cuisine. www.azeensafghanirestaurant.com
Le Grande Orange is also within walking distance. www.lgostationcafe.com
If you want a hole-in-a-wall Mexican, there's El Toreo Cafe. on the corner of Fair Oaks and Colorado.
Other places to consider include Dish www.dishbistroandbar.com Vertical Wine Bistro www.verticalwinebistro.com
Enjoy your stay.

re: ipsedixit
A block closer the La Grande Orange, and to my taste better (if not as interesting architecturally) is Central Park, on Fair Oaks between Green Street and Del Mar. Sand dabs, flatiron steak and a damn good burger. Avoid the gluey mashed potatoes - they have a sumptuous potato gratin you can sub in, or their fries are quite good if you prefer those. Some friends of ours are gaga for the dinner salads; I'll take their word for it...

re: ipsedixit
Hi ipsedixit, I have seen you mention Dish in another thread and was wondering what was up as I thought you were referring to the place in La Canada which I don't think is Chowworthy. I'm glad you put the link because I wasn't even aware of Dish in Pasadena -no relation to the spot in La Canada. I look forward to trying it!
