Does anyone make Quail and/or Guinea Hen???

We used to stay at Auberge du Vieux Port in Old Montreal and often ate at their restaurant Les Ramparts (I understand no longer there). Their Quail appy and their Quinea Hen entree was exquisite. We've been to Montreal each year, but have yet to find a place that even has either one on their menu.
Does anyone know of any resto that serves either?? I do surely miss both!

  1. Raza has quail fairly often on its menu.

    1. Au Pied de Cochon usually has a whole guinea hen (feet intact) for two on its menu.

Les Trois Petits Bouchons sometimes has a pretty amazing guinea hen roasted with vin jaune on the menu. Last fall we also had a great starter of glazed half quails on a bed of spaghetti squash spangled with pomegranate seed.

You'll sometimes see quail on the menu of upscale bistros (Laloux, Cocagne, etc.), though if there's a place where it's a fixture, it's not coming to mind. Your best strategy would probably be to check the online menus shortly before your visit or to call around once you're in town.

I just have to echo Carswell's recommendation of the Guinea hen at Les Trois Petit Bouchons. When I had it last, it was served, perfectly roasted, on a bed of porcini mushrooms, brussel sprouts, fingerling potatoes and shallots. The best I've ever had.

I recently had outstanding roast guinea hen at Kitchen Galerie. Every aspect of the restaurant itself was a wonderful experience! The only thing is you'd have to call in advance to see what their menu is as it changes daily depending on the "market" availability.

      2. There's always roasted quail on the menu at L'Express, one of my favourite dishes there. And you can also have a Portugese version at Chez Doval.
