what is the best place for Italian beef sandwiches in the Ann Arbor or metro Detroit area?
I'm looking for a place or two that serves something as good as Chicago's famous Italian beef sandwiches dipped in au jus. I know of two places in Chicago that are regarded as the best - but is there anything like this in and around Ann Arbor or metro Detroit (hopefully in the west or northwestern suburbs (like my hometown Farmington Hills)?

Still open! Weds-Thurs for dinner, Fri-Sat all day. If you're driving far, might want to call ahead on game days... sometimes we sell out faster than anticipated.

Apparently there's a place on Packard ( before you get into downtown) that advertises em. I've never been yet since they keep odd hours ( I think only open on weekends or something). An Italian beef is one of my absolute favorite sandwiches and would love if they were more readily available around here.

Chicago Dogs has been gone from this location quite a while. I heard the owner downsized to a cart inside the Lowe's at 16/Dequindre, but even that was a while ago.
Hippos is definitely worth a stop.
I know I've seen Italian beef on a menu somewhere recently, made a mental note to try it the next time, and it's right on the tip of my brain....gaaaahhh!!

Thanks for the note to original poster - hours now expanded plus outdoor seating! As to Wise Guys, we bring in Hot Chunky Giardiniera from Chicago's own "That Pickle Guy". Took us several trips to Chicago to figure out all the secret beef spices and locate a Gonnella roll vendor, but I think we're pretty close... Pic attached from last year's Italian Beef eating contest, too.
