Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Bouley Market has closed

Very upset about this - they had the greatest roast chickens, and fantastic pastries.

  1. their croissant will be greatly missed as will the soft shell crab sandwich and their smoked turkey.

wonder why it went down? perhaps it could have been in a place half the size (like the old location)

Oh, and they had some great soups... tasty but not too salty.

    2. I'm going to miss the skate sandwich! Absolutely delicious, with that delicately flaking fish and the addictive sauce... nothing else like it that I've found. And the fig bread, the utterly perfect thing to have with cheese.
But it's true that after the market moved across the street to the old restaurant location, it always felt awkward. The food wasn't displayed to advantage (Bouley + steam tables?!), the layout was unclear, and the seating room quickly got dingy. I hope the good staff members (some of whom came from Payard when it closed) were offered spots at other Bouley restaurants!
