Does anyone know where you can buy goat in downtown Manhattan, or Brooklyn?

Also - is there a part of a lamb that is similar to skirt steak?

  1. There is often very good goat the the Union Square Farmer's Market on Saturdays. I can't remember the name of the farm but there stuff looks really good. Not sure about the lamb. Good question!

Yes, there is a vendor at Union Square that always has very good goat, but I don't remember the name either. They are at the north end of the market., easy to find I love skirt steak and I love lamb so I can understand the desire for something that combines both, but I don't think there is such a thing as lamb skirt steak. Lambs are much smaller than cows and are built somewhat differently, so I don't think anything comparable exists.

    2. Check Patches of Stars and Lynnhaven at the Union Square Greenmarket. They're more well known for their goat cheese but they often have goat meat for sale.

This NYT lists some retail stores that have it as well:

      Union Square Greenmarket
Broadway and E 17th St, New York, NY 10003

      1. Goat stew meat is widely available, particularly in neighborhoods with a Caribbean presence. I've purchased it at Associated, Pioneer and Fairway.

I imagine you could find lamb flank steak at Union Square.

along the same type of rec; its found at Trade Fair, as well as Food Bazaaar, etc.; somewhat downmarket places and very affordable if you get the cubed bone-in goat, perfect for any kind of stew/curry/cookup.

        2. Awesome - thanks everyone for their help.

I will give feedback on my lamb finds.

          1. You can probably get goat on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, one of the halal meat places.
