Help! Lunch and car repair today at La Cienega and Washington Blvd.

So I need to take my car in to be fixed while I wait. The shop is on the somewhat desolate stretch of La Cienega south of Venice, and north of the intersection with Fairfax. Any quick thoughts on where I can cool my heels and grab lunch while I wait? Doesn't have to be amazing--the default is the Green Burrito/Carl's Jr Jr at La Cienega and the 10--and I imagine I could do at least better than that. The caveat here is that I really don't have the time to walk more than half a mile or so in each direction. And no, I can't really bring a picnic lunch to the shop....(no place to sit).
Thanks, hounds for any input!

Thanks, everyone! The mechanic told me to give him an hour and a half- instead of the hour I planned for--so I took sel's advice and walked to Cafe Surfas (skipping Father's Office since I now have to put those missed hours back into my work day). Until sel mentioned it, I had no idea that that part of Culver City was so close to the shop --.8 mile! Xotik and Brunello's also looked appealing, although Xotik only had one table, and Brunello's looked like a find to come back to with a friend. Industry Ethiopian and Soul Food--with a recession lunch special-- looked interesting as well. (I am sure there will be more car repairs and neighborhood walks in my future. )

Surfas Cafe was a lovely lunch spot (I had the turkey and roasted asparagus sandwich) and I got in browsing time, too.

If you're ever getting service again and don't feel like walking at *all* (La Cienega between Washington and Fairfax), consider JR's bbq! Granted, tough to kill 90 minutes there, I'm sure you had a far more stimulating time going to Surfas. But if you're ever doing 30 minutes of service JR's would be perfect. I used to work in the area and have been there dozens of times. I almost always get the bbq beef sandwich, which really hits the spot. Very friendly, homely service.

I love the food at Xotik kitchen, but that place is really only good for take-out. Eating there is pretty cramped and unpleasant. It's also expensive for what you get.

glad it worked out for you, and i'm impressed by your restraint - i can't imagine just "browsing" at Surfas. that place is a financial landmine for me ;)

if you're ever back at Cafe Surfas they do a good, lean bison burger.

I was there last month and was sad to see that the buffalo no longer roam on the range (or rather grill) there. I asked and was told that they weren't happy with the supplier and now offer a kobe beef burger in its place...I chose the lobster panini instead, which was quite good.

ack! this has been happening to me all month - why does everyone take away my good stuff? thanks for the heads-up, but BOO on Surfas.

Having to walk back from Surfas with some bum body parts provided the restraint. Not that I won't go back with the car.....

If I were stuck in that area I'd walk a bit west down Washington Blvd. and grab a sandwich at Cafe Surfas or an Office Burger and some wonderful craft brews at Father's Office 2 which opens at noon on Fridays!

there's a location of Versailles (Cuban) on Venice just east of Palms. without knowing the exact address/location of the body shop i'm not sure if it's within 1/2 mile, but you can check for yourself:

I don't know if Brunello's is open for lunch or not? But you might give them a call and see. We like them for Italian (at reasonable prices).
