Healdsburg report
One of my favorite towns and yummy food. Stayed and ate at Madrona Manor for first time. The food was fantastic. I would say that other than one course (a lobster sous vide that was lacking some flavor) the food was on par with The French Laundry, but at half the price. A wonderful cheese course not to be missed. Incredible presentation of 6 cheeses--the goat cheese was halved with one half being ever so slightly warmed on a himalayan salt block then presented with the room temp half. Sounds simple, but fantastic.
Other highlights were Scopa. Great boar ragu and a boar chop. And fresh burrata for an appetizer. Dry Creek Kitchen is always a favorite as the staff are great and food yummy. The Oakville Grocery has the most incredible chicken and gruyere sandwiches. To go or in their courtyard with a glass of wine--fantastic. Even though it's not Healdsburg, we drove down to Willi's Wine Bar (just north of Santa Rosa) as the Willi's in Healdsburg was too crowded that night. Great small plates including pulled duck (!), truffled french fries, romesco shrimp...yum.
Wineries that were particularly fun in the area were Papapietro Perry (our all time favorite), Woodenhead, De la Montanya, and Moshin. Great Pinots.
