BR Guest $150 Gift Certificate - Where to Go?

michele cindy Apr 16, 2010 05:52 AM

I'm really indescisive today... I'm planning to use a $150.00 gift certificate to any BR Guest restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary tonight. I'd prefer to stay below 34th St. Does anyone have a favorite they can recommend? I've done a pretty good search on the menus, and nothing is standing out for me. Only requirement to keep in mind is my husband eats seafood, but not meat. I was leaning towards Dos Caminos on Park, but I've been to the one in Soho and wasn't really thrilled.

    Primehouse or Blue Water Grill.

What do you like best about Primehouse?

They treat you like royalty there. The food is great, they have great table-side Caesar salad and the steaks are always cooked the way you order them and taste sensational. Topped of with a glass of delicious red wine, what more can you ask?
If you are wanting to go for a luscious anniversary meal, I would recommend Primehouse.

We ended up going to Primehouse. The service was great, the Caeser salad was great, but the rest of the meal was just ok. Not bad, but not what I expect from a NY Steakhouse. I like Keene's, and even Ruth's Chris much better. I ordered the petite bone in filet, black and blue. It came out per my order, but the one thing missing was the crust that I've enjoyed elsewhere. Somehow other places can prepare the steak B&B and still come up with a crust. Not sure how they do that... My husband ordered the sea bass, it was just ok, really really tiny piece of fish, and he likes his fish cooked through, and indicated that to the server, but it was barely cooked through. Usually we would send it back, but it was a special night, and we were going somewhere afterwards, so he just ate it. We ordered the mac and cheese which was great, but somehow reminded me of Stouffer's mac and cheese in taste. But it was far superior. The chocolate soufflé was really nice. The best part of the meal was the dessert and my drink - I forgot the name, but it was gin, pimm's cup, and grapefruit juice. Both were really tasty. Overall it was an ok meal, and we had a great time. I was really happy we weren't paying for it entirely. We had to add 65.00 over the 150.00 not too bad...

too bad i didn't see your post sooner. i would have recommended against primehouse. i went for RW and it was pretty meh.

wildwood bbq is great, but probably hard to spend $150.

I can't say the food at Primehouse is bad but at those prices it's not very good either. It's strange how they can make a black and blue steak consistently come out black and blue as ordered but also sorta limp and uninteresting.

very true. The good thing was the when I cooked up the leftover 1/2 at home the next day, I had a decent, yet still rare piece of meat. I think they must not use the same grilling techniques as other steakhouses. The ovens must not get as hot or something.

We've eaten at Primehouse several times and LOVED it each time. My husband is a steak snob (in a good way!) and we can't get enough of the crust that forms on Primehouse steaks from aging downstairs in their Himalayan salt room.

What about Blue Water Grill? Also, whenever I have a GC to a restaurant, I usually use it as a splurge on a bottle of wine that I would or could not normally afford. This way you are only paying for the food. Just an idea.
