Avila small plates
A friend and I met at Avila after work and took advantage of their small plates which are $6 each or 3 for $15 (about 8-10 things to choose from). It was pretty crowded at 6:30 but cleared out an hour or so later. Dining room wasn't too busy but never really looked in there. I had an okay Hendricks cucumber martini (not the best one ever but all right) and he had a regular gin martini and we split the chicken livers, mussels w/ chorizo and yucca sticks. It was really good, and nothing too small about any of these plates. Mussels were HUGE and while she said it was spicy, it wasn't really. Broth was fine, didn't really jump out at you but the size of the mussels was impressive. Friend had never had chicken livers and he really enjoyed them, they were sauteed w/ tomatoes and were quite tasty. Yucca fries were good, kind of super starchy obviously but the dipping sauce with them was great. And the bread and butter was really good. It was a nice upscale but reasonable after work stop.

That;'s good to know. Did you sit at the bar then? I think that's a great option for a pre-show light dinner!

I haven't been back there in a while, but have always preferred the bar and small plates menu to the dining room and regular menu at Avila.

We went to Avila a year or so ago and were very pleased with their small plates. It would be fun to go back and make a meal just out of the small plates. Our party had several of their pastas, too, which were underwhelming, but the small plates were tasty and sort of a bargain!
