    1. more from their website: Muracci's 2 in Los Altos, unlike our San Franciso location will be a full service sit down restaurant.

Our popular dishes such as "Spicy Noodles", "Omelet Curry", and "Hamburger Curry" will all be included on our menu, as well as additonal new items.

Muracci's 2 in Los Altos is in the same location as the former "Ichi" restaurant that Tamiko and Yasu ran a few years back.

might want to wait a little for them to work out the kinks first...

Yes, that’s good advice. William and I tried the new Muracci’s on April 16 for dinner. The service was well-intentioned but inept. I won’t bore you with the numerous slip-ups and delays, I just hope that they’ve figured things out by now because the food is worthwhile.

I’ve not been to the location in the SF’s Financial District to compare. We did like what we ordered and the value found here.

Our salads accompanying the entrees came out first. Both salad dressings – wasabi or miso - were really tasty gilding iceberg lettuce (and a very unripe tomato). The housemade pickles to accompany the curry plates were very good too.

The karaage, $6.75, was competent. A bit greasier then the version we’d just had at Orenchi and more rustic, this was a tasty starter to hold us over until the rest of our food came.

The next plate out was Katsu curry with medium spicy curry and brown rice. We ‘d ordered white rice but decided to keep it because the service was so chaotic, we didn't want to wait any longer. A much bigger pork cutlet than I expected, the freshly fried, crunchy coating and tender, juicy meat was as good as it gets. The “medium” curry barely registered any heat on the palate and hit all the comfort food buttons.

New to me, the Japanese style hamburger was expertly grilled. Not knowing what this might be, we tried to order it medium-rare but learned that it’s more akin to a meatloaf. Made of coarsely ground beef mixed with chopped onions and formed very loosely, the tender patty had a soft and moist texture even though cooked well-done. Topped with golden brown onions, the char and seasoning of this juicy hamburger made a most delicious mouthful with the hot curry sauce. Soon we were dragging the pork katsu through this spicier sauce as well.

Serving size is quite generous and we had enough to take home for a lunch of leftovers. We’ll find our way back once things settle down to try more from the menu.

          • dropped by here a few saturdays ago and tried the katsu chicken curry(8.95).
-very tender and generous portions. curry pretty hot.
            -friendly service.
            -haven't been to s.f. so can't compare.

Thanks for reporting on the chicken version.

My brother went back with a friend last week and said that things had calmed down service-wise. He added that he was there on the early side and not every table was taken yet. He had the beef curry ramen and reported that the sauce ordered "hot" was spicier than before. He said the beef was tough but noodle texture was good.

                • We finally tried it out and this is as good as reported. We had the salmon and chicken katsu curries (the pork katsu had sold out), both medium, one with white rice and one with brown rice. The medium spice was just the level we hoped for - spicy enough to notice, but complementing rather than overwhelming the other rich curry flavors. The salmon and chicken were both perfectly cooked and the curry sauce was scrumptious. The pickles were tasty and went well with the curry.

We'll have to get back to sample some of the other dishes on the menu. Between Muracci's, Sumika, Akane, and Satura Cakes, downtown Los Altos now has a nice assortment of specialized Japanese cuisines.
