Mandarine-like, but not buffet
I know... this is a weird request.. but my family is coming to town and have requested that we go for dinner somewhere with "Canadian Chinese" food (chicken balls, lo mein etc), but that is not a buffet.. Any ideas? Anywhere in Toronto or Scarborough area (no Missisauga, Brampton etc).
Thanks everyone.

China House has a cool 1950s decor. Very Charlie Chan. The food's much better than you'd expect!

I don't know how far "east" in Scarborough you are, but just over the border in Pickering on Kingston Road is a place called Paul Wong's which is quite good. I live in the area and whenever we feel like "Canadian Chinese" but want full service as opposed to buffet or take-out, this is our go-to spot.

Maybe China House on Eglinton? That might hit the spot:
http://www.chinahousetoronto.comI haven't eaten at China House in years, but I remember it being a good place with a "Canadian Chinese" type of menu.
P.S. If you do go, and anyone orders egg rolls, let us know: are they good? (As much as I love great (authentic) Chinese food, I also love a great egg roll!

I don't think your request is at all "weird". Good Canadian Chinese food may be hard to find, but it can be great when its prepared properly with good fresh ingredients under a top chef...just like every other foods! Unfortunately, I don't have a favorite that I've been to and can recommend, but two places I want to try sometime based on board comments are China House and C'est Bon.
