Going to Conan Show, Need Recs for Universal City --

Hi guys, we've got tickets to go see Conan O'Brien on April 25 at Universal City. We plan to have an early dinner first. We want to stay "up on the hill" for easy access to the venue, instead of going anywhere else (say, Musso and Frank's on Hollywood Blvd). And we haven't eaten anywhere "on the hill" for 3-4 years. So --
-- What's good these days at Universal City? Cafe Sierra buffet at the Hilton looks great, but expensive - is it worth it? Is there anything to speak about at the Sheraton Universal? How about CityWalk - I know it's a tourist trap, but is there anything there that's decent?
Any and all input appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone? Is it that much of a gastronomic wasteland? Any replies are welcome --

      Mantee on Ventura Blvd.

10962 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604

    2. Ca Del Sole on cahuenga

      Ca Del Sole
4100 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91602

      1. Ca del Sole is the nicest restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the Universal lot. This is not "up on the hill," however. There really aren't any nice places in Citywalk.

Yes, I checked out their website, and it looks wonderful. I may change my plans to eat there. I did have reservations at Cafe Sierra for their buffet - would that be a bad move? Is it just a tourist trap as well, and would I be wasting my money?

honestly everything in there is a tourist trap...but if you're there, there's a darn good chance you're a tourist, and you're thereby trapped.

Haven't been to Cafe Sierra, so I cannot say for certain. But I have been inside the Universal Hilton and it's nothing to write home about. I would opt for Ca del Sole if you're looking for a reasonably nice restaurant.

          2. Last week Pink's just opened a new location at the Citywalk. Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but they do have a pretty darn good chili dog.

            1. If you're willing to go nearby but not up on the hill, Caiotti Pizza Cafe would be the way to go, IMHO.
