Newport Advice

My wife is spending a "ladies weekend" for Mother's Day in Newport, RI. (small group of 3 or 4). They are staying at the Viking Hotel so use that as a reference point if possible. Preferred cuisine(s) would be Italian, Continental, or American (steak/seafood/etc.). A nice setting would be a plus. Thanks in advance !

  1. Tony, there are lots of great places in Newport (Castle Hill, Spiced Pear, etc.).

I think there are three or four current threads about Newport active now. You'll find lots of helpful suggestions.

    1. Tell them to check out the Clarke Cooke House - while the food is good, it's not the absolute best in town....but the building is so gorgeous they should see it. Tell them to say they're planning a wedding and would like a tour, especially the top floor formal dining room.

wish i had responded to this sooner, as i live on the hill, two blocks from the viking, which we love. for your future trips to newport, 22 bowen for steaks/chops, great, and wonderful food. mama luisa the best italian (on thames) with her "cousin" restaurant lucia's down by brick alley pub. lucia's is BYOB which is great, and the food is wonderful. also, the pier with the new management and new chef a favorite now with locals. come back next year for mother's day, and enjoy these!!!!!
clarke cook house good "scene". food can be hit or miss, but great activity!
