Short Party Weekend in STL

I am looking for recommendations for a quick Saturday night and Sunday morning road trip to STL for a group of friends in our 20s & 30s. We are going to a show at The Pageant Saturday night and would love to find some place for pre-show dinner that is within walking distance (and that serves cocktails – one person in the group doesn’t like wine or beer.) Recommendations for bars for after the show would also be appreciated. For various reasons, we probably won’t want BBQ, Asian, or fine dining. Anything else would be great.

For lunch on Sunday: Where is the best St. Louis-style pizza in the city? We also thought about having lunch on The Hill – is there any non-touristy place we shouldn’t miss? We are probably going to stay in Clayton so I would appreciate some recommendations around there too – but because we will be having lunch on our way out of the city location isn’t critical. Thanks!

  1. For Sunday lunch, I suggest Guido's on the Hill (http://www.guidosstl.com). They do a very fine pizza there, and they also do tapas (real tapas, like the ones you get in Spain).

I second Guido's for STL style pizza, but know that most of the Hill is closed on Sunday's. Guido's website says they are open Sunday from 11-11.

    2. If it isn't too late, Eclipse Restaurant and the Rooftop Bar and Moonrise are great. The food is not too expensive. If you go for a drink after the show in the restaurant, you might see members of the band. As for pizza, Pi across the street from the Pageant is fantastic. They have both Deep Dish and thin crust and the POTUS had the guys that own it cook for him at the White House last year because he liked their pizza so much. Again, hope this isn't too late.

      1. My favorite StL style pizza is near where you are staying -- in Clayton on Hanley, just south of the business/commercial center. It is Cafe Manhattan, and has a diner or soda fountain feel. Get a big pizza, some toasted ravioli, and a house salad. Open on Sunday, I think from 11.

        1. Thank you everyone for the suggestions! The tornado warning kept us at the hotel (Crowne Plaza) for dinner on Saturday. We went to Cafe Manhattan for lunch on Sunday and we all loved it. Their toasted ravioli was incredible and we had the best St. Louis-style pizza I have ever had. We all loved the charming diner decor as well. Thanks again for the input.

Thanks for reporting back. I hit Cafe Manhattan just before going to the airport at the end of my visit last weekend, and it was as good as always. Glad you enjoyed it.
