Ba Shan London Must Try Dishes

Hello. My wife and I are planning to have a dinner at Ba Shan during a trip to London. I know there are a lot of comments about the place on here, but what are the dishes we absolutely must try? Keep in mind it's just the 2 of us, so we can't order too much. Thanks!

The vegetables were all extremely good, and the potato slivers were great. I think my favourite dumplings were the lotus leaf buns with tender stewed pork.

As helen says, don't under order. The portions are tiny.

does this place have different menus for lunch and dinner, or has the menu simply changed drastically after the original chef left?

I went there for dinner not long ago and the menu didn't offer too many 'small dishes' such as dumplings or buns, but mainly huge pots of szechuan food. looks like a completely different place to the blog reviews of 2009.

Same menu for both sittings, as far as I'm aware, but (as I've mentioned on another thread) the menu is now very similiar to what's on offer at BarShu across the road. Such a shame because we really liked it when it first opened. Quality has since declined and it's off our list.

If it's Sichuan food, rather than just dumplings, you're after; you should definitely try Chilli Cool (Kings Cross), No 10 (Earls Court), Sichuan Restaurant (Acton) or even Empress of Sichuan (Chinatown).

p.s. johnnypd, the original chef is now apparently at Seventeen in Notting Hill but reviews have been negative so far. Gutted!

I really liked the (very fiery) potato slivers, the cold egg and seaweed dish, the potstickers and the little green buns with cumin spiced beef.

Portions are small so you can probably have at least 6 between you.
