Texarkana to Memphis via Hot Springs and Little Rock

d
dcbbq Apr 14, 2010 08:14 AM

We'll be driving from Texas through Texarkana to Hot Springs, where we'll stop for the night; then to Little Rock and possibly stop for the night before heading on to Memphis and the Tennessee Kentucky thread. Possible meals include lunch around Texarkana, dinner and maybe breakfast in Hot Springs, lunch or dinner in Little Rock, and perhaps a stop on the road to Memphis if there's a good reason. We eat everything, although the wife is getting fed up with places that have no lighter options.

May thanks in advance

We've been to a down home place in Forrest City, The Wagon Wheel, that was great. Three cafeteria-style buffets, soup and salad, hot foods and desserts. A full menu as well. We we're there on new year's day and had great black-eyed peas, beans, greens a multitude of meats and fish and my husband and son said they ate "the best fried chicken in my life". Sweet, local and homey.

I don't know why I put Ft. Smith on here. You are not going through Ft. Smith. On your way in from TX here's a couple in TX just off I 30.

            Nana's Family Diner @ 1026 North Center St/, New Boston, TX 903 - 628 - 0700. I30/EXIT201.
            Blaylock BBQ @ 2310 North Jefferson Ave., Mt Pleasant, TX 903 - 572 - 1561. I30/EXIT162B.
            Bodacius BBQ @ 100 West Ferguson Rd., Mt Pleasant, TX 903 - 572 - 7860. I30/EXIT162.

Just before you get to Texarkana at EXIT 208 is a good one. Right off I 30 on N Side across from truck stop. Good BBQ ole country store type place very friendly clean and nice folks.

            Ramage Farms Country Store @ 901 Main St., Hooks, TX 903 - 547 - 6187. I30EXIT208. BBQ.

Before you get to LR here's a few stops in Benton.

            Ed and Kay's Restaurant @ 15228 Interstate 30 N., Benton, AR 501 - 315 - 3663. I30/EXIT116. ***
            Rib Crib BBQ @ 1600 Military Rd., Benton, AR 501 - 778 - 9600. I30/EXIT118.
            http://www.ribcrib.com/index.html
            Smokey Joe's BBQ @ 824 Military Rd., Benton, AR. 501 - 315 - 8333.
            http://www.smokeyjoesbenton.com/

When you pass LR and want to stop there's Pruett's in Lonoke, Nick's in Carlisle, Gene's in Brinkly and The Sawmill in Forrest City.

You should make it to Memphis now. Good luck.

If you come to Memphis, you must have BBQ and Central BBq is the best. I'm a Kansas girl and I thought KC was the best, (sorry Texas) but Memphis Q rocks and Central is the best around. As for a light options? Right around the corner on Cooper street there is Cafe 1912 and going the other direction on Cooper is Soul Fish. For a fancier option there is Grace, but you would need reservations for that one.

For Little Rock, I'd recommend Whole Hog Cafe for barbecue if you're going for a quick, affordable lunch or dinner. Its the best barbecue in LR.

For LR fine dining, look no further than Ashley's at the Capital.
