Quiet dinner place in Financial District - with good beer?

  • 7

Help me choose a place for an 8p.m. ish dinner tomorrow night, for 8 people just off a long transatlantic journey. Prefer walking distance from the Royal York. Need a quiet place for a business dinner, but a decent beer list would be a huge plus. They are seeing Toronto for the first time, so I was thinking a nice place with a view. Cost no object. Is CANOE is too formal/too fussy for this? - any other suggestions welcome.

  1. Beer Bistro comes to mind first - not too far from your hotel, great beer list, decent food (though it varies on what you order). While 8pm on a Weds wouldn't be crazy, it won't be quiet.

Duggan's isn't too much farther, but the beer selection isn't crazy. I like their food though. Not sure what it'd be like on a Weds night.

Since I'm not a beer hound, I'll have to leave it to others for the smaller places around :)

Thanks for the fast reply - I also thought about Beer Bistro as a perfect place, except that every time I've been there it has been deafeningly loud because of the hard surfaces everywhere. This will be an important business meeting where people need to hear each other. I'd like to show off a great Toronto restuarant, but not something stuffy like the Royal York where they are staying. Have never been to Duggans - is it good?

I liked it well enough on my visits (about four or five now).

I think that the food is above average, but it's pretty casual. You might want to give a ring and ask how busy it is - I've sat in the back where it's much more quiet.

    2. Canoe would be great food and ambiance stellar google to see beer list if I can remember great local beers or The irish embassy Miranda

      1. Getting that 8pm table for eight at Canoe could be a problem. You may have better luck with Bymark (though it's subterranean) with its smaller private rooms. Or you could score beerbistro's private room if it happens to be free. Both are quiet enough.

        1. C'est What has a very extensive beer list. It is at Front & Church. It's only loud on the weekends so during the week at 8pm should be relatively quiet.

          1. What about Starfish? Not much of a view but it's a nice walk from the Royal York, quieter than Beer Bistro and has a decent beer list..
