Looking for a mail order source of dark roasted peanuts in shell?

sfbing Apr 13, 2010 05:32 PM

I used to buy my peanuts direct from Hoody's, largely because they roasted their peanuts a little longer than normal (so the nuts were a golden-brown). The extra roasting time would make the nuts very peanutty, and more importantly, they didn't have the rancid flavor that a lot of under roasted peanuts have.

Unfortunately, they appear to have been purchased by another company that doesn't sell online. Plus, the Hoody bags I found at Andronico's have very pale and stale underroasted nuts, despite having an expiration date in June 2010. When I emailed the customer service dept, they basically said that nothing has changed, when it clearly has.

Any how, now that baseball is starting, does anyone know of a good source of very roasted, salted, in shell Virginia peanuts? I'd rather not have to figure out how to roast my own peanuts.

Sorry-forgot to mention I wanted them salted, too. Although I might give them a shot, since they don't give the standard vague "roasted to perfection" description.

Also, I'm hoping for a place that someone has vetted-- I've eaten a lot of disappointing peanuts lately.

www.hamptonfarms.com , this place will be a huge hit for all your peanut needs. I buy #25 of cajun on a regular basis. Best thing to do is call their number and order over phone. At you door in 3 days.

Second me on Hampton. They were marketing the in shell salted peanuts with the MLB (Major League Baseball) logo on sale at the local Safeway derivative,. I fell in love; even sent them an email. For years I would find a brand that had nice dark ones with a scattering of too light and then get another bag that was all light. I just threw them out. If I am eating peanuts they need to be really p-nutty dark roasted. Even the local farmers market that was roasting on site could not give me a consistent product.

The absolute best salted-in-the-shell peanuts are Houston's out of Dublin, NC.

A very close second is Hampton Farms.

CB's Nuts (www.cbsnuts.com) does a 'Robust Roast' that is darker than normal, & man are they delicious!

Did you ever find the dark roasted peanuts? I am looking for them now but from reading this thread it seems like no one ever answered your question. All great peanut companies but I have yet to find any of them that do the darker roast.
