"Upscale" BBQ catering in Westchester?

minutia Apr 13, 2010 11:10 AM

Having a large party in the backyard -- the vibe is rustic elegance. We're thinking BBQ and don't know who does it best around here. Also open to any other suggestions that would fit the bill. Thanks!!

I haven't actually used them, but I came accross this website when looking for something similar once and it looked pretty good...

There are a few suggestions on this thread...not sure how "upscale" they are.

Attended 3 of these backyard type things last year and took cards from all the caterers cuz they all did a nice job. here were highlites:
-pulled pork & salads from great american bbq at one
-Lobsters, ribs & steaks from Royal grilling Co. at another (ribs had an Asian-style dry rub that was amazing--not fall off bone style either which I prefer)
-hot dogs with every topping imaginable from firehouse deli on potato buns!

Service was better from first two places only because they were more organized and uniformed. Have also had great bbq from Plates but never at a home which the chef does as well.

          Isn't "upscale" bbq an oxymoron?¿?

Two I have always liked are The Great American BBQ and Taylored Menus out of Pleasantville.

Never tried any of these, but Great American BBQ has been mentioned, American Bistro in Crestwood, Eastchester Fish Gourmet does a New England Clambake and Traditional BBQ, There is also a place in Croton I've heard about, but the name escapes me.

While not crazy about the restaurant, we have been to an EFG bbq/bake and the food was spetacular.

Not sure if you had the BBQ already, but we like Memphis Mae's in Croton. Not sure how elegant chicken and ribs can be but they're sure good.

Just realized how old this post was, and the party has probably already happened, but All Smoked Up (http://www.allsmokedup.com/) is an option. The guy travels to anywhere in the Northeast but is based in Danbury, and his food is delicious. Not sure how his pricing is however.

Why not take a look at Big W's in Wingdale? In my experience, their BBQ is as good as it comes in the region. I've been to a lovely backyard affair catered by Big W's, at which the BBQ was great. Ribs, chicken, pulled pork, brisket, interesting sides. Not sure what you mean by upscale, but if it's the best food you're after (and I'm assuming that's why you're consulting the Hounds), you should certainly check out Big W's as a possibility.
