For a fun food and bar scene, near you, I would recommend that you try Basis American Restaurant @ 7th Street and Thunderbird Rd.

Another great restaurant, though more wine-oriented, than bar oriented, would be NOCA, at Camelback and 32nd Street.

PS - Do not know how the link to 32nd St. Cafe keeps coming up, instead of NOCA. Guess they paid CH big $'s to get the links. Could be good, but I've never even heard of it.

I haven't had many meals in that immediate area. Kampai comes to mind - a moderately-priced sushi place. I go to US Egg, once in a while, for the protein pancakes. It's nothing special, but, the service is always good. In the same area, there is a Sunflower Market, for groceries.

I think you are in a pretty nice central location with fairly easy access to midtown Phx, Paradise Valley Mall, Desert Ridge, and Scottsdale.

Good call by johnseberg on Kampai. Quality authentic sushi. Been going there for 15+ years though I live 45 minutes away. Yuki-san is great. If I lived that close, would be there constantly.

I'd also suggest that you do a Search of this board (hope that it made it over), for "Superbowl," as a great list was done, when that was held in Phoenix. It was broken down geographically, with great annotations as to prices. Yes, some places will have sprung up since, and some closed, but it will provide a good basic "food lay of the land."

I have this "gut feeling" that the apex might have been crossed here, but there are still some great, and a bunch of very good, restaurants in the PHX Metro Area - all 500+ sq. miles of it.

Armed with that list, you could pick out places that seem of interest, and likely someone here will have dined there, and can update things for you.

          Welcome and enjoy,
