Please help me find "cheap" lobster in OC

I know, I know, but it's a crisis: if I don't find an alternative, we're going to the Red Lobster on Garden Grove Blvd. and Harbor for someone's birthday. She wants a plain old AMERICAN-style Maine lobster, not very expensive, no grilled Baja weirdness or stir-fried Tan Cang Newport Seafood whatever.

The closer to Huntington Beach, the better, not that I think there's going to be a ton of choices here. I'm thinking I'm going eat beforehand and just nibble on the least offensive thing I can find, if we end up stuck with RL.

King's is too expensive. I already tried that.

  1. Any Asian place will make you a plain steamed lobster. My daughter in her younger days wasn't into stir fried Chinese lobster, the Chinese places we went to had no problem making her a plain steamed lobster. You can't get any cheaper than that.

    1. Still a bit offensive, but not as gentrified, Joe's Crab Shack? Their menu has a boil pot with lobster in it.

      A quick search yielded:
      - Rockin Baja Lobster in Newport Beach - I've been, a slight mexican spin-off of Joe's Crab Shack, at least it's by the beach.

Another thought is Bear Flag Fish Company in Newport. Totally casual seafood mkt with some tables. You can bring over some beer from the nearby Albertson's. Give them a call to see if they carry and will boil up some lobsters for you...

      1. You could try the Longboard Pub in downtown HB.

        1. re: Tapeworm

At Longboards, they have one of those arcade claw games where you can catch a live lobster as your prize. So if you have the skills, you can get a lobster for just a couple bucks.
They also have some good panko crusted calamari strips and buffalo wings. Stay away from the steamers, mine were filled with sand the last time I ordered them

        2. The Crab Cooker in Newport Beach, right off the California 155 Freeway has really good grilled lobster tails....
