Very good and consistent. Also rec Rayuela and Yerba Buena if money is less of an issue.

I like Cafecito a lot but I'd never think of it for a large group.

What is a "large party?" Aside from knowing that, you can look in to:
        Esperanto
        Son Cubano

            Esperanto is S. American: http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/esperanto/

Yes, you're right. it's good but looking for something a little different. it is a good option but a bit lacking in vibe/decor. Am I right?

I love the decor and vibe at Esperanto; it literally feels like you're somewhere other than NYC. The rooms are colorful and casual - the vibe is great - and there's live music (just don't know the lineup/sched).
                Ideally, what are you envisioning?

                Thanks,

That sounds good. How do you compare to Sushi Samba?

Completely different; more local, less commercial; much more intimate and much less corporate.

I love Esparanto...the staff is awesome and the food is delicious! Never been to Sushi Samba and can't say i would ever want to go there. it seems like such a trick for SATC fans and not real food lovers

Esperanto was the first place that came to my mind too. Prices are right, live music most nights, food ranging from good to excellent in both the Cuban & Brazilian departments.
