Places to eat for non adventurous eaters?

My husband and I will be heading to New Orleans next week. I've heard from many people how wonderful the food is there, but neither of us are very adventurous when it comes to food. What are some places that we could check out that have fairly basic items on the menu? We'll be staying near the FQ and convention center, if that makes a difference. And to be even more difficult, we don't care for seafood either. Fish is great, but neither of us are into shrimp, crab, etc (Such a shame too! It always looks so good!).

    I definitely would not recommend Stella or Mila for non adventurous eaters. They are both very eclectic. The Rib Room sounds good. You may want to try the American Sector inside the WWII Museum. If you like Italian you might like Tommy's as well.

      i was just in NOLA and we went to dinner at Cochon (Tchopitoulas and Andrew Higgins). THe menu is very meat heavy, but everything we ordered at our table was absolutely awesome. We got the pork dish with turnips and cabbage and it was awesome.

      We also went to dinner at Emeril's Delmonico on St. Charles and shared lots of dishes. The three of us left for $105 including wine. I would recommend you eat there-- get the gumbo, it was amazing!

        Gotta disagree with Stella for non adventurous eaters. I think it's one of the most progressive places in town. I'm not even sure I'd recommend MiLa to nonadventurous folks, even though it's way less daring than Stella.

        I'd say if you want good food that isn't out there, try Commander's. I think of it as upscale comfort food. Galatoire's has some simple stuff, too (don't let the french names fool you). Bon Ton might work, or you could stop by Port of Call for a burger. That said, I think you'll be able to find something you like just about everywhere, especially in the quarter. Most of those places try to cater to a wide variety of folks.

        If I were you, I'd just look at menus of places that are recommended on chow. That way, you won't be surprised. MiLa, Stella, Bon Ton, etc., all have menus online that will give you an idea of what they're all about.

          This points out big differences between individuals' perceptions of what is avant garde, or cutting-edge, regarding food. For me, those two are middle-of-the-road, at most. For others, they are beyond.

          Now, I do love Galatoire's, and did love Commander's, but felt that they have let us down on the last several trips - they did nothing well, on any visit. Is that indicative? Only for the visits that we made. As much as we love them, they have been unable to return the "love." For us, it's about the food and service, and martinis do not figure into the mix, regardless of price. I can do those at home with the ultimate ingredients. I cannot do CP's food, when they are on, regardless of price, and regardless of chef-signed copies of the cookbooks in our library.

          For me, only Chef John Besh, at Restaurant August, would be considered "out there." Just different frames of reference.

            I see your point, Bill. I don't personally find Stella to be that far out there, but in Nola, I think that's about as avante garde as it gets. Excluding Green Goddess, of course. I consider August to be on par with Stella in this context.

            I agree that the Rib Room would be a good candidate.

            I would also throw in Stella! Though they are innovative in the cuisine, they are not radical in any way.

            MiLa would be a safe bet too, as would Brigtsen's.

            If something on the menu "surprises" you, there will be alternate dishes to choose from. Also, the food at all will be great.

              The Rib Room sounds like what your looking for at 621 st. louis street in the omni royal hotel great room you will like it. rotiserrie chicken, steaks, prime rib etc...
