I have not been to the new location yet, but Black Trumpet in Spring Lake is very good!
Belmar there is really not much of anything good, to me, anyway.
I don't think I have ever been to any place in Bradley.
Also in Sping Lake is Whispers. Both places are BYOB.

Had a good dinner at Nicchio in Belmar a few weeks ago. There's a thread about it on Chowhound

I second Nicchio. I haven't been in awhile, but I liked Matisse, too.

Not great, but IMHO these restaurants serve pretty good food.....Bella Sogna, Bamboo Leaf, La Dolce Vita, Citrico's.

IMHO, there really isn't much to recommend in the Belmar, Bradley Beach or Spring Lake area. I tried Nicchio this past weekend and while there were some positives (the bread, pasta and decor), I was generally unimpressed (mediocre mains and cramped tables). I am also not a fan of either Matisse or Black Trumpet having been disappointed with my one and only meal at each restaurant. I have enjoyed meals at Casa Solar and Viva's in the past, but recent reviews on this board about a drop in food quality and service have given me pause to return. I wish you good luck and hope you enjoy your meal at whatever restaurant you choose.

I have to say that the restaurants in your specified area are really spotty at best. I've had some decent meals at Nicchio but the food and service are hit-and-miss. I really don't enjoy Matisse but their Mack's Chicken Shack next door is excellent for what it is. La Dolce Vita has offered some decent meals, but don't bother in the summer when the whole place just goes way downhill with the crowds. Viva's has yet to win me back. The Black Trumpet and Whispers are too self-conscious. I have enjoyed some sushi dinners at Osaka in Bradley Beach and St. Stephen's Green in Spring Lake Heights, but I wouldn't call them great by any stretch. Why not a ride down to Brielle to Shipwreck Grill or even Manasquan to Mahogany Grill?

I agree that there is really not much that rises to the level of "great." Vesuvio's pizza and the extra-hot habanero wings at Boom perhaps fit the bill. The eponymously named Kotta Roll tasted pretty great both times I had it.
Other than Brandl., the Shipwreck in Brielle and Mahogany Grill in Manasquan are probably the best in the area.

Just as an FYI - the chef at Mahogany Grill was let go about a month ago and the previous sous chef was brought back. I believe he has maintained the menu for now but I hear that changes in format are pending. I haven't been since the shuffle.

Is it still the same owners? I saw ads on craigslist all winter long where they were trying to sell the business?
Same owners as of now. They have been trying to sell. As I understand it, one of the partners wants to get out of the restaurant business altogether and the other(s) don't want to - or can't - buy him out. It's been a tough winter for them down here and the story is that Harvest Moon has been carrying Mahogany Grill for a while now.

Sorry Houston, but I have to agree with bgut1 on this one, there really is not not a single establishment in any of these shore towns mentioned that provides great food. They all miss the mark unfortunately. I had high hopes for Nicchio but several chowhounders have been disappointed with various aspects of their operations, especially relating to the wait staff and service in general. Other restaurants mentioned in this post have been hit or miss over the past few years. I suggest that you go a little farther south to Point Pleasant and Daniel Bistro on Broadway which is better than any of the restaurants in the Bradley, Belmar or Spring Lake area.

Excellent choice!!! Let us know how it was. Karen is always so sweet and warm when you arrive. Too bad other restaurants could not learn from her!!!

Ok, so I'm a foodie and gourmet chef and very picky. Not that familiar with NJ shore as I am a NYer, we have learned some great spots this summer after a day at Spring Lake.
Kleins..in Belmar, not for their specials, just for their simple seafood. I had a 2 lb female steamed lobster there that was sweet and one of the best ever. Simply served with local corn on the cob and baked potato. The sushi is good, the atmosphere is nice and casual if you want to sit outside by the water. Good drinks too. We seem to go back a lot, but have learned the chef is not that good, stick to the simple fish in season , not the fancy specials that are sauced and not that good.
Second, place...in Bradley Beach, that little italian on the corner with signs in the window showing rave reviews. The food was really very good italian. Yummy in fact. Great sauces on everything we ate. Had a hot antipasto with excellent eggplant stuffed with ricotta and spinach, great fried calamari, wonderful stuffed mushroom, all the sauces were different and the only complaint I have is the singer/guitarist who roams and sings to you tableside. Although many people were into it , we were ducking and hiding so he wouldn't approach us. We def recommend it. Other than that , our dessert is always the same, ices from Trullo's. the best.

Sorry its called Cerrato's Bradley beach.

Had a very bad experience at Cerrato's Italian Cuisine this evening. After making a reservation and traveling to the restaurant some 10 miles from our home, we were greeted with a sloppily written sign on the door stating that the restaurant had decided to not accept restaurant.com certificates. Having ordered a $75 gift certificate good at only this restaurant, we were not pleased. Any restaurant that creates such an offer and then refuses to accept it is certainly not worthy of patronizing. Fortunately, Bradley Beach NJ has many fine Italian restaurants and were were able to find one nearby for enjoyable meal. We also contacted restaurant.com who were very professional (unlike the treatment we received at the restaurant) and promptly issued not only a credit for the full amount of the certificate, but also an additional $25 credit for our inconvenience. We will never again consider Cerrato's Italian Cuisine in Bradley Beach NJ.

How is Giamano's in Bradley Beach. There's a singer I want to see who will be playing Friday nite's in September and I'd like to go if the food is semi-worth it. I seemed to have read that they have good pasta dishes/vodka &I bolognese for example.
Anyone and is it a byob?

I have heard good things about Giamono's. Try it on a Tuesday - half off your entire check...drinks included. Get there when they open, otherwise you are in a for a wait.

Thanks Dan. While I appreciate the 'heads up' as to Tuesday, I'm really interested in seeing this singer who's only there on Friday evenings.
Rather than travel to NYC, the opportunity to see her locally and to enjoy a modest meal, perhaps a pasta dish and keep my tab down is what I'm looking for. As a parent of two college kids, splurge dining is reserved for special occasions these days. Thanks also to Jerzy Shore on the bar set up and it not being a byob.
I'll let you know in a couple of weeks as it's still on the boards as a possible 'date'.

Nice place albeit pricey for the area. They serve up some decent Italian food in a nice space with white linen covering the tables. Service is attentive and more formal than most restaurants in this area.
Smallish bar but manageable with a very nice selection of wines focusing on Italy.
Go here for a special occasion or just an ordinary weekend dinner. It is not a byob.

Since it's the right time of year and I was in the area again, I've got to give another shoutout to Taka. We had a GREAT meal (and a great time, for that matter) again this weekend...the spicy calamari, JUMBO pork and shrimp shumai (app special) that were amazing, and my personal favorite, the red dragon roll (shrimp tempura roll wrapped in tuna w/spicy mayo) combined w/good friends and good wine reminded me of why I like this place--just be sure to make a reservation!

If you want seafood in Belmar, I'd bypass Kleins and head instead to Mr. Shrimp. And I never pass through Bradley Beach without stopping at Vics for a great Italian meal.

Jersey Shore BBQ in Belmar is easily the best BBQ I've had anywhere near the shore in NJ, and it's honestly just a good place in general. Service was very friendly, it's BYOB, and everything was hot and tasted fresh when I went a month ago. A+.
Also want to say McCann's Tavern in Belmar has great burgers and steaks and general pub food. Especially good are the "Sicilian" potatoes....one of the best (and worst for you) potato preparations I've had. Good little local spot.
