your favorite tapas bar
hello
i'm finally back in los angeles. I want to go to several tapas bars in Santa Monica, West los Angeles in the next few days. What do you recommend? I'd love, of course, memorable unique food, fun ambience and a memorable
experience to write about in my food column.
thank you,
laurel

Manchego on Main in Santa Monica has pretty tasty traditional fare...their jamon wrapped dates and tortilla con chorizo are very good as well as their Spanish cheese selection (Idiazabal, Iberico, etc.). Note of caution though there are less than 10 tables and it fills up pretty quickly. They do not have wine but it is a blessing in disguise because you can bring your own bottle and enjoy with no corkage fee.

The hottest place for tapas in L.A. right now is The Bazaar by Jose Andres at the SLS in Beverly Hills. Perhaps not the most traditional because of the heavy molecular gastronomy influences, still an awesome experience for someone familiar with Spanish tapas. I am so in love with his assortment of jamon serrano, philly cheesesteak, seared scallops, and flan. The cocktails from the bar are also superb...if your order the caprihinia, you'll be in for a great show!
