Mauro's in Ossining

Marge Apr 10, 2010 06:05 PM

We recently dined in Mauro's for the first time since the new chef took over--we enjoyed it very much. The dining room is attractive, and the service was good. A bread basket containing a few varieties of fresh, warm crusty bread along with a lovely green extra virgin olive oil for dipping was terrific. The kitchen graciously split and plated our shared appetizer, pasta and main course. As an appetizer we had beef carpaccio, which was served on lightly dressed arugula with slivers of parmesan. Our pasta was papardelle with oxtail ragu--the ragu was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Our main was chicken on the bone, which was wonderfully crispy, with potatoes, sausage and hot cherry peppers. For dessert we shared a slice of fabulous housemade ricotta cheesecake, which was moist and sweet. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food, and they even have a rather large assortment of $18 per bottle wines.

That's great to know Marge, it's been awhile since we've been there, thanks for the review.

They now have prix fixe dinners on Tues.-Thurs. & Sundays for 14.95. It's 3 courses and a very good variety.......http://www.maurosrestaurant.com/menus...

Closed for good? My mother was supposed to go to a retirement dinner there today, and yesterday the person in charge of organizing it received a phone call saying "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the restaurant will be closed tomorrow." They had to scramble to find another place to hold the dinner. Whoever notified the organizer made it sound like it was just going to be temporarily closed though.

I hope it's just temporary, I really enjoyed my dinner last time I was there.

Sadly, closed for good. This is the email I received from them:

Sorry to inform everyone that Mauro’s has shut it doors. We tried to hang on as long as we could but the Banks couldn’t wait any longer.

We will continue to contact those of you that have made reservations and have booked parties and events.

You know us; the hardest part of this is the impact on our staff and the relationships we have developed with you, our extended family. You were all great to our staff and us (including our boys) and we appreciate that and will miss you. I am hoping that we can continue to see some of you.

Thanks again for your support the last 3 years.

                  Joanne and Don.

Kudos to them for trying - this has been a tough season for restaurants. (there was even a Clipper coupon for them in the most recent edition). I hope they find success and happiness, wherever their journey takes them.
