Sushi recommendations?

I've recently moved to Santa Clara from the midwest and am loving it!! Im looking for some sushi and also vietnamese restaurant recommendations. I love innovative sushi. I'm willing to travel 30 mins max as we have a newborn. Any lunch spots would be most helpful, which are going to be ok with a little one.
Thanks!

Here's a dated list to give you some idea of what's available.

Sushi Monster's map link is fantastic.

That list is probably your best bet, especially since it deals with places that are easily accessible from Santa Clara. Sakae in Burlingame is my favorite in the Bay Area and worth the trip.

It seems Sushi Monster's list has not been updated since 2008 and some of the top tiers (other than the top 5) imho no longer belong there (eg. Koma, Tomi etc). A couple of others to try : Ocean Blue, Sushi Club, Yume Ya (dinner only) in Sunnyvale, Hoshi in Santa Clara.

Sushi Monster's list focuses on "classic" sushi like nigiri and sashimi. Your post mentions "innovative" sushi. What is that? If you mean rolls with lots of random ingredients, then Sushi Monster's list will be exact opposite of what you're looking for.
