Lyndell's to open in Belmont Center?

gansu girl Apr 9, 2010 04:28 PM

I just heard this from a friend - dunno where she heard the news, or if it's true - supposedly moving into the old Charlesbank Books location? Anyone have scoop?

Don't think I have seen it posted before, but Lyndell's opened a location in the North End of all places.

I won't be disappointed to have them in Belmont.

Its funny I live in the North End and probably go to Lyndells more than if not the same as Marias. Unfourtunately I think I am the only one as its always pretty dead. Best half moons ever!

Yes, Lyndell's took over Lulu's, the rather horrible cupcake shop on Hanover Street, ages ago -- sometime last summer, if memory serves. It seems like a perfectly reasonable addition to the neighborhood, given that none of the other bakeries specialize in that sort of thing. It's not like they're competing with Modern or anything.

What puzzles me is that Lulu's has turned back up recently, on Salem Street...possibly even in the old Dairy Fresh location, now that I think of it. They seem to have turned into more of a general sweets shop than a bakery, but I haven't been in, so I can't report.

I read a recent piece on Wicked Local about how they're going into the old Carberry's space on Prospect St. in Cambridge and how more locations are in the works for the future but it didn't mention the Belmont space. I was in Lulu's a couple of weeks ago and can't figure out how they'll survive. They're selling the same kind of candy you can get at CVS and the cupcakes looked grim. Lyndell's on Hanover St. has a much wider selection of cupcakes than I've seen in their Somerville location.

I just noticed that they do have a sign and are open in the old Carberry's space in Cambridge. I don't understand how they can be expanding like this with such lousy products. People love their Stop & Shop-caliber cakes, I guess.

Hi all - months later, I have confirmation from an actual Lyndell's investor that Lyndell's is indeed going to open in Belmont Center - I of course don't know when, but it's a go!

Signs in the window at former Charlesbank Books say "Comella's" coming soon. Comella's website also lists it. Maybe Lyndell's is coming to a different storefront?

Yeah, I've seen that too - I dunno - but I can find out!

And to the haters - it's old school, I agree, but I think it's quality old school.
