Buena suerte! It's just a mortar+pestle made from volcanic rock. A standard issue ceramic version will do fine provided you don't reduce the contents to Gerber-like ooze. Volcanic stone only really matters for something like a metate for grinding corn--tamales made from hand-ground fresh limed corn is heaven. Recipes? Check Diana Kennedy or Elizabeth Lambert-Ortiz. Just don't sucker for one of the concrete versions on offer around the GTA.

Not exactly the most authentic, but I have seen it at Crate and Barrel in Yorkdale. According to the website it is made from volcanic stone.

This is from the American site so the price will be different.
