UWS brunch w/ unlimited drinks

Will be meeting an old friend for brunch next saturday on the UWS. Looking of course primarily for good, relatively inexpensive food, but we would also like a place where the booze is flowing! Does Calle Ocho only do unlimited sangria on sundays?

  1. What about the new offshoot of the Sunburnt Cow, called The Sunburnt Calf? I believe they opened last weekend.

I didn't see that many UWS spots but this list is worth a look:

    1. I just went to Sunburnt Calf last weekend. It's definitely a work in progress but we had a great time and the drinks were definitely flowing. Every time I half finished my mimosa, it was magically refilled before I looked down. We had a 1:30 reservation. Mind you, our party wasn't complete until closer to 1:45, but we weren't seated until after 2pm. The food was okay. The special lamb burger was supposedly really good. I got the poached eggs on crabcakes for a $5 supplement. They were really good, but it took two tries. The first time it came out the yolks were completely hard inside like a hardboiled egg almost. I hate hate hate returning things, but I just had to this time. When they came out the second time, they were actually poached and pretty tasty.

They start and end the meal with some interesting infused tequila/vodka shots which was a nice bonus.

Can't really beat it for $18.

Great to know the "calf" opened. I have been to the Sunburnt Cow once, and it was very enjoyable.

Arte Cafe on 73rd just west of Columbus has an all you can drink brunch that is solid. I went recently (for first time in a few years) after running a race in Central Park and maybe it was all the runners with the same idea who took up the majority of the place, but place was packed and drinks were flowing!

Never been to Calle Ocho, not sure about a brunch there.

A little higher up, the Heights on 111th and Broadway, and Campo on 114th and Broadway each offer a $10 or so supplement to brunch to get all you can drink. Food is better at Campo between the two.

That said, I'll be hitting up the Sunburnt Calf soon!

We stopped by the Sunburnt Calf recently just to peek into the space (we loved Miss Ellie's which was there a long time ago). The staff were really nice -- we explained that we had already eaten brunch but wanted to check out the space and look at the menu. The staff said "Sure" and "oh by the way, have some passion fruit infused tequila with strawberries and orange juice, on the house!". What service! when they already knew we weren't staying. We are definitely going to try them out soon.

As for Calle Ocho, I think their unlimited sangria may be Sundays only. But I thought I read recently (maybe Grub Street?) that they would be expanding it to both days. Definitely check first on that one.
