DATE NIGHT
Hi all,
Tomorrow is date night! Any recommendations for me and my girl in the city? Want somewhere cool. Budget $100 - $200.
Thanks!

If you can get a table now that it's hit the press, give Origin a whirl. Definitely cool.

Nice interiors. Modern-looking, clean lines. Haven't tried it out yet, but peered (and took some shots) through the window...!

I believe Ms Kates may have been to Origin just a wee too soon. We've only been once, but I'd say the dishes have already been improved upon from her trip(s) there.
We opted for a regular table since, hey, it was my birthday and I didn't want to spend it talking to the side of hubby's head. Definitely want the kitchen/bar seating next time when fun will be at the top of the list.
The interior is beautiful. I adore how it seamlessly changes gears simply by walking from one side to the next. The east side is all restaurant and the west all lounge. I can't wait until the patio opens.
There's only one weak spot. If you're going to do small plates, please make your entire wine list available by-the-glass. Sure, you may have to cut down on selection, but the ability to dish-to-dish pair is well worth it.

Noticed that you liked Italian on another thread... the people behind L'Unita have recently opened a spot called Malena that is getting good press. L'Unita is also a good date spot if you haven't checked it out.
www.malena120.ca or www.lunita.caContinuing the theme, Buca is definitely a hot spot, but you might have trouble getting a rez for tomorrow.

my fave date night we've done recently was lee on king west - the food was awesome and it's a nice fun vibe for a couple with sharing plates. prices are perfectly in your budget, and the portions are actually really filling! we did 4 dishes, dessert, a bottle of wine and we both left extremely satisfied

I actually prefer Madeline's over Lee. The two restaurants share a kitchen but Madeline offers a bigger variety of choices. I found the service at Madeline's organized, efficient and the perfect balance between intrusive and indifferent. The dim lighting and comfy booths are also more romantic and intimate than Lee.
