Dutch friend asks for a diner

Our friend visiting from Europe wants to try a diner. I couldn't search it, but I know there must be some good ones in Philadelphia. Any recommendations? I'm not sure what she has in mind, I have to say, but I think the diner vibe is somehow what interests her. And I'd prefer good cooking, too.

Oregon would be my pick in the city. Jersey has a lot of pretty fair diners as well. I would stick to diner "classic" cuisine like chicken croquettes, or calves' liver and onions (stuff you can ONLY see on a diner menu.) Also desserts like pies..

Agreed and will add breakfast food, especially scrapple.

Oregon Diner is the best of the old school diners IMO. It definitely has the vibe. Melrose Diner has great diner atmosphere but the food is pretty weak, except for the pies.

I second Oregon Diner. Penrose is pretty good too.
