Helene Darroze or Marcus Wareing? [London]
I tried to make a reservation for 3 several months ago at Marcus so there were full - this board suggested Helene Darroze as a replacement.
Now Marcus has come back to me from the wait list and offered a spot.
Does someone have a preference, and why?
Thanks in advance.

I agree with howler, Helene Darroze for sure. Marcus Wareing was better when the restaurant was Petrus, for some reason. Wareing's food is good, not great, whereas Helene Darroze is great. Plus the service at Wareing was some of the worst I've ever had at a restaurant of that caliber.

Helen Darroze is amazing!!!! I love the small dish selections and have had things there that no one has ever dreamed of (fois-gras ice cream as an apetizer ... it worked!!!) and they were executed to perfection. The dishes are creative, and thoughtfully presented. No drama, great service, perfect place to taste many new things that you will never be able to recreate again. She is a genius! I would go here over Marcus anytime ...

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I have been to Marcus before (not Helene) and what I liked best about Marcus was how quiet and comfortable it was -- a very good place for a serious conversation. Of course, the cuisine was quite good and better than in many of London's celebrity chef restaurants. I look forward to contributions from others who have been to both.
