Help! Boston 30th bday celebrations for large group
My ex roommate from Boston (who now lives in Maine) is turning 30 and we've decided to gather in downtown Boston for a fun weekend. Haven't been back in ages and not sure what some good options are...
any suggestions for the following?
1) Dinner on a Saturday night - open to suggestions, ideally not too expensive as most people are still in Med school. Good food with great drink options? Any all you can drink spots? I know NYC has quite a few.. but couldn't find anything in Boston.
2) Saturday night lounge - a fun dance spot - rnb , top 40
Red Sky would be great for your group, for the drinks/music part. Last time I went, it was a 20's and 30's crowd (not too too young and college-y) with top 40 and dance music. Lots of flavored-vodka type drinks - not a place for a "classic" cocktail, but fun and lively.
The food at Red Sky is very mediocre (at best) bar food that's trying to appear upscale. I'd eat elsewhere - there's not much in Faneuil Hall though. Perhaps Marliave or Silvertone for dinner?

Lucky's in Fort Point might be able to accomodate both food and dancing needs. Their food is really reasonably priced (especially given the quality). It is definitely comfort food, but struck me as a little bit different than the run of the mill meatloaf and mac and cheese that everyone has done for the past 5 years. They also do great 80s/90s/top 40 music. The place gets packed, but it is a casual, fun environment.
PS- No place in Boston does all you can drink. We're not even allowed to do happy hour.
I think Gaslight in the South End could work well for dinner. Moderately priced, good food and bartending. Another option would be Green Street in Cambridge (Central Square) As far as All you can drink in Boston? I dont think that is even allowed to exist here.
For Top 40, check out Estate (Downtown), Saint (Back Bay) and 33 Lounge (Back Bay). My personal favorite spot on a Saturday night though is Middlesex Lounge in Central Square. DJ Kon spins on Saturdays and is one of the better DJ's in town, but it is definitely not a Top 40 type of mix, but the music is great, IMO.
