Good early morning eats between MKE and Madison?

Hi All,

I'm flying in to Milwaukee early tomorrow morning and promptly driving to Madison. After a reasonably long flight I'm going to be in search for some good food. Any suggestions along the way? We land at about 6am but figure we'll be out of the airport by 6:30-7am. Open to all different kinds, not much we don't eat. Any and all suggestions anywhere in the general vicinity of that route would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

First I'll tell you about a place along your route that I DON'T recommend, and then several recommendations at your destination that I DO recommend.

The Original Pancake House is my go-to chain for breakfast. They have a location in Brookfield on Bluemound Road; you can get there by exiting I-94 at Moorland Road just west of the intersection with I-794, then from the restaurant continue west on Bluemound to its intersection with I-94 to get to Madison. However, I'll warn you - quality at this chain varies from one location to another. I've had breakfast at this particular location twice, and both times it was absolutely AWFUL, with dishes horribly undercooked. I don't recommend it, but it's along your route and they're open early for breakfast. www.originalpancakehouse.com

If I were you, I would continue all the way to Madison, which is only about an hour or so driving from Milwaukee. If you will be in downtown Madison around the Capitol, I recommend breakfast at Marigold Kitchen, a cozy place where you wait in line and they have excellent breakfast food. www.marigoldkitchen.com If you're not going to downtown Madison, there are two locations of the Original Pancake House in the area, one in Monona right off the approach to Madison on US-12/18 at the Monona Drive exit, and the other west of campus on University Ave. I've been to the Monona location and it's okay, unlike the one in Brookfield.

A second vote for Marigold Kitchen. And if you don't get there for breakfast, lunch is great too.
