Suggestions for diet and wallet restrictions...
Four of us are visiting Manhattan for a week in June. We need 5 or 6 dinner recommendations, given various restrictions and parameters. First, though we anticipate one or two dinners where we'll be willing to splurge, our budgets are fairly tight. Secondly, at least one in our party has some medical restrictions, having more to do with physical intolerance issues than anything else. Ingredients need to be fresh, unprocessed, and preferably gluten free. He's able and willing to work around a wider menu, just as long as he can be accommodated. Geographically, we anticipate most of our time will be spent south of 34th Street, or on the Upper East side. No restrictions on meat intake, or cuisine type. Given all of that, what would you suggest?
I can suggest some restaurants that have G.F. menu options: Risotteria 270 Bleecker Street, Gustorganics 519 6th Avenue ,L'annam 121 University Place, Nizza 630 9th Avenue- this is above 34th but thought I would include it, S'mac 345 E. 12th Street, Bar Brenton 254 fifth ave.

Second the recommendation for Risotteria. Their gluten-free breadsticks are so good I double-checked to make sure they weren't made from wheat.

Dirty Candy isn't very inexpensive, but the food is delicious, vegetarian and local and they can work with diet restrictions. Very small so make a reservation. Another less expensive place to check out is Angelika's Kitchen. Kind of a classic, but very fresh vegetarian food that will meet most budgets and diets.
