Restaurant Suggestions - York Mills/Lawerence/Eg and Yonge area

Here is the deal - four mom's with children between the ages of 8 months and 4 years getting together on Saturday night for dinner/drinks. Want somewhere in the York Mills/Lawrence/Eg area close to Yonge (or Avenue and Eg). Good food /atmosphere and somewhere that we will not be rushed and hopefully the option to have a drink or two at a bar after dinner (located at restaurant or close by).

Any suggestions...

  1. Trio is a casual, but nice, Italian restaurant that is very kid friendly (I see large groups of kids in there all the time). Very nice Italian wine list. Yonge, several blocks north of Lawrence. No real bar area, though.

Wildfire Steakhouse and Grill is a solid option for a menu with a good variety for everyone, especially the very good grilled piri piri chicken. Good wine list, and a large bar area that you can move to after dinner if you want, though it's not the type of place that would try and rush you out of your table. On Yonge halfway between Lawrence and York Mills -- it's basically across and a little south of the Loblaw.

I don't find Monkey Bar very good, but haven't been in a few years. Cravings is fine for what it is -- dressed up pan-Asian. It's a few notches above Spring Rolls in terms of food, but that isn't necessarily saying much. :) It does have a nice atmosphere, though, and I imagine that it's fine with kids.

Please avoid the Miller Tavern. The food is overpriced and seriously "meh". And I suspect that you may just get a little attitude for the bringing the kids and wanting a leisurely dinner. I could be wrong, but the regular clientele there are mostly beyond the age of having little kids and you may very well get the evil eye from some of them.

I just remembered that I saw a "closed for renovations" sign on Wildfire. Just checked their website and they are closed until April 21.

    2. The Abbot is a very nice pub / restaurant. Great food and good bar. 3367 Yonge Street.

      1. Don Mills Plaza has some good spots Miranda

Did you have anything specific in mind? I believe there's Linda, Glow, and Joey...

The Don Mills restaurants aren't near Yonge street, which is part of the original request.

Yes, thanks. They weren't my suggestion, but I was just wondering what miranda recommended.

        2. I'm perhaps a bit confused... At first, I thought that the kids were coming to dinner, but the mention of after-dinner drinks makes me wonder if they're staying at home?

If the kids are coming out, Ferraro (on Eglinton, west of Avenue) is very kid-friendly and has good (though not mind-blowing) pizza, pasta, salads, etc. There isn't anywhere good to go for drinks in that stretch, though.

          1. Can you please clarify, will you have the kids with you or not?
