Plain Chow Mein in OC

Lately I've been hankering for a good plate of chicken or cha shew Chow Mein, Cantonese style, and for some reason I haven't been able to find it. I've given up on Pei Wei and Panda Express and such places of course. I used to get this in Chinatown at Man Fook Low and places like that. But I now live in Middle OC and I'd love to find a place like it. Maybe Sam Woo (which one?) or one of the Irvine Chinese restaurants? Help.

Check out Fu Wing Low in Fountain Valley. Exilekiss reports in his review that the owner Kenny was the former head chef at Man Fook Low.

Please define what you mean by chow mein. Chow mein is Cantonese for "fried noodles", so there are two different things that get served by that name: the kind where it's a tangle of crispy noodles with sauce on top (where the sauce softens the noodles as they sit), or there's stir-fried egg noodles with stuff in them.

If you're looking for the former, try King Harbor on Harbor and Garden Grove in Garden Grove; they have the latter too, but it's called lo mein there.

Most Sam Woo's should have what you want. Ask for soft noodles rather than Hong Kong style (crispy noodles).

Try Sam Woo Express in Irvine. It is a less formal cash only alternative to the Seafood place next door. I always used to get the Tri-shredded Chow Mein (minus the pork, so di-shredded?) with crispy noodles. Make sure you ask them to go light on the oil. I have not had the soft noodles, but I am sure it is on the menu somewhere.

Soft noodles will not be on the menu. You have to inform them when you order chow mein that you want soft noodles (Cantonese style) otherwise you'll get HK style (crispy).
