  1. Kind of surprised to have to ask this, since you seem active on the Manhattan board, but your request is awfully broad. How many people, where are you staying, what is your price range, what are your preferences/taboos, etc.?

Meanwhile, you might find some good pointers in this thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/506024

4 adults-will be there staying for a week at the Onyx Hotel downtown Boston-I know request is broad-price is no object-GOOD food is the object BUT having said that probably don't want suit and tie places-remember we are from Hawaii-where casual is our style BUT the food has to be DA BOMB!! Yes yhe UES Mayor is from Manhattan but family coming from Hawaii where we are originally from.

      1. re: UES Mayor

The most obvious place for casual price no object is O Ya. Knock yourselves out.

What are some of your NYC favorites that meet these criteria?

Yes, that would be awesome. Let us know what you liked/didn't like last time.

The only new "price no object" place (since your last visit) I can think of is Menton.

            Menton

          2. You should absolutely go to Neptune Oyster. Other recs:
O Ya (your Hawaiian family may not appreciate the raw fish selection quite as much as us Bostonians)
Eastern Standard (they have a great patio)
            Craigie on Main
            Toro
            Coppa

I'm not feeling the love from you Bostonians!!! Haven't seen one list so far with even close to 10 faves!! Surely you guys go out and dine!!

              1. re: UES Mayor

Repeat. Where have you already been of our previous suggestions on your last 2 visits?

                1. re: Taralli

Repeat-this is not for me! For family members.

                2. re: UES Mayor

Hckbg's post, above, shows a link where chowhounds talk about their 5 favorite places. Seems that would be a darn good start to feeling the love. Other links were posted to help you out, as well.

                  1. re: three of us

Right--see, there are around 160 posts on the thread I gave you above. That's 160 lists of peoples' five favorite places, or around 8000 places (some of which, of course, are duplicates and comments). So maybe there are only 4000 places listed, but that is surely more than your family will visit in a weekend.

What we are trying to say, nicely, is that we have answered your similar queries last year and the year before and rather than saying everything all over again, we ask that you review our year of thoughts and your past experiences before expecting us to reproduce our labor. Taralli is suggesting that there might be some places you visited last time (or did not visit), and if you let us know what you liked then we can help suggest some other ideas for your *family*.

                    1. re: hckybg

Thanks everyone-didn't mean to sound ungrateful and I appreciate all your responses!! I am sure we will find enuf to recommend for above said lists!! I am eternally grateful.

All Star Sandwich Bar – Casual but good sandwiches
Regina Pizzeria (North End Location Only)

                1. re: Dan Boston

Thanks Dan Boston! this is exactly the kind of response I was striving for. It's been over a year since I visited and hoped I haven't missed any new openings or established ones worth a visit. Much Mahalo !!(thank you in Hawaiian)

                  1. re: UES Mayor

Hi..been to Hawaii a few times and love the food on Oahu. Alan Wong's was one of the best meals I've ever had. Since your family is visiting from Hawaii, I would avoid Japanese and Seafood restaurants as Hawaii tops anything we have in Boston.

I would stick with French, Italian and steak places.

                    Expensive-Mid choices:
                    Mistral
                    Sorellina
                    Troquet
                    Rendezvous
                    Prezza
                    Grill 23
Coppa (my new favorite. tiny place though..not sure how many ppl visiting. If more than 4 ppl..avoid)
Flemings (a chain..but I've always had a good meal here)
                    Da Vinci - awesome pastas
                    Grotto - great prix fixe

                    Lower price:
Pho Pasteur, Xinh Xinh or even Pho Le's for pho.
Parish Cafe - Boston chef inspired sandwiches...nice patio and awesome sangria.
UBurger - avoid the onion rings. get fries & shake.
Rod Dee - thai food. best in boston imo
                    Annas Taqueira - boston mexican
                    Pizzeria Regina
                    Santarpios

That should be a good start for you.

Oysters and Lobster roll - not a restaurant, just 2 things to get. I know I said avoid seafood..but I don't recall Hawaii having any good oysters or lobster roll. My picks would be Legal Seafoods(oysters only), Neptune Oyster and B&G Oysters.
