Spanish or Turkish near the Whitney?

Going to the Biennial this Friday and am looking for Spanish within reasonable walk/short cab.

Spanish: Malaga? El Porron? Solera?
I'm a bit scared of all 3 based on general online reviews, seem quite mixed.

Turkish: Uskudar? Beyoglu?

I prefer authentic atmosphere to trendy but if the food is better, trendy is fine.

Help!

I used to live close to Uskudar and went there many times. The food was always good and it wasn't expensive. It was a reliable neighborhood option, nothing out of this world, but good. But I haven't been there in 5 years or so... Perhaps someone will have a more recent experience to report.

I'd encourage you to get out of that immediate vicinity. Is this for Friday dinner? Lunch?

The closest one I can think of is La Fonda del Sol (haven't been). Otherwise, I'd steer you to Txikito (Chelsea) or Casa Mono (Gramercy) but both would have longish waits for dinnertime.

And its all about the vicinity. Been to all the places you've mentioned. Not close any of them.
