Where to get hong zao or anka paste?

Does anyone know of a shop in NYC that carries this? I've been wanting to make the Taiwanese recipes from the latest Saveur, but can't find this ingredient.

I've scoured the groceries of Flushing's Main Street with no luck. Saveur lists a mail order source, but their shipping and handling costs are ridiculous. Plus, as a New Yorker, I refuse to believe there's an ingredient we can't get here!

i saw it at 75 East Broadway (right under the manhattan bridge), one of those vendors that sells a lot of random food goods, dry and fresh, on the street. $2 or $2.50 for a tall chinese-food container's worth. just ask the guy, he should be able to help you. otherwise, I remember it was on some racks, on the left side of his stand/shoppe.

just happened to write about it last week:

Thanks!!! I also ran across some today in Sunset Park, at S&P Seafood at 8th Ave and 58th St, packaged in the same way, unlabeled. Gotta love getting a huge homemade container for $2, instead of $20 for a tiny jar via mail order!
