Any good restaurants in/near Rochester, MN? [Moved from Minneapolis-St. Paul Board]

Anyone know of any good restaurants in or around Rochester MN? Specifically looking for smaller, local (not chain) place I can take friends from San Francisco...

I really like Jasper's Alsatian Bistro. Great local place - cute and cozy with really good food. Fantastic desserts too! Chester's is pretty good. Also local, as far as I know. My husband went to the Rainbow Cafe in Pine Island (just north of Rochester) and raved about it, but I haven't been so I can't give you personal experience. Oh and if you're willing to take an hour's drive you MUST go to the Harbor View Cafe in Pepin, WI. Only open weekends right now, but it is phenomenal food. Seriously - it gives a lot of places in the Cities a run for their money.

Just back from two weeks at Mayo's. I suspect that attending a training course is less stressful than sitting around and wondering what all those tests and doctor's appmts will reveal, so my observations may not necessarily be in sync with more casual diners.

A second to Jaspers. My charcrute was a huge plate of food, easily enuf for two, but quite enjoyable. Damissus said her poached halibut special was OK, but any fish dish other than fried walleye doesn't meet her standards. Wine and beer only.

Enjoyed a good meal at City Cafe, Specializes in seafood, just aroiund the corner from Jaspers. Had a good meal of mussels and warm bread.

Finally, if you enjoy potato pancakes, just like mother used to make, head for Paanekuchen, juust across the street from Methodist Hospital. Ate there three times for the pancakes. Very good.

And if time permits, make a trip to Harbor View.
