Affordable drinks/bar menu in Brentwood/Westwood on a Sunday night? (Happy hour?)

I am looking for a good place for a group to hang out and chat/drink/nosh after a church event that will end around 6:45pm/7ish on a Sunday evening. (The church is St. Martin of Tours in Brentwood on Sunset, about 1 mile West of the 405).

I'm hoping for a place that has either happy hour on a Sunday, or a bar menu that isn't too expensive. (Some of the people in the group, while of legal drinking age, are on the young side and I don't want them to get stuck with too .

Brentwood would be the best location, somewhere in Brentwood Village (Barrington/Sunset) or San Vicente (between Bundy and Wilshire) would be great. Westwood would also be okay.

Tavern's bar area is great, but the prices are not. Ditto for Wilshire Restaurant--plus it is a little further away than I'd like.

Palomino and Napa Valley Grille, both in Westwood were two possibilities for Happy Hour on a Sunday--but I haven't had happy hour at either one--any thoughts?

  1. The problem you are likely to run into is that 7 PM tends to be the closing time for most early Happy Hour promotions.

Check out http://bar-food.us/ and see if it fits the bill for you? Again, their HH ends at 7 PM so you would be looking at the normal menu prices after that.

Indeed, the happy hour thing might be tricky. Thanks for your link, I will check it out.

At least Palomino and Napa Valley Grille are having extended "happy hour" hours so worst case scenario we can go to one of those places.

    2. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Cabo Cantina is very close and their happy hour goes until 8. The people on the younger side will definitely appreciate it :)

      1. palomino has happy hour ALL DAY. so time is not an issue. their food is surprisingly adequate as well (in a good way).

napa valley grille is a more subdued HH joint. they have the typical 4-7pm and 9pm till close happy hour.

i pop into the HH at the daily grill on occasion and it is perfectly fine...but i do not recall the hours......but feel it is 4-7pm.

bar food on wilshire/amherst also has HH from opening (4pm) till close.

"bar food on wilshire/amherst also has HH from opening (4pm) till close."

That's at odds with what they have up on their website (which lists HH as 5 to 7 PM). Do you know if their website is inaccurate?

            yep, their website is outdated.

Good to know since I told the OP they would run into the 7 PM cut off if they went here. Now they can consider it without that being an issue.

Just went to Bar Food to check it out. Their all day happy hour, according to the owner, runs thru Tax day (April 15). After that it apparently reverts to the time listed on the website.

I went to a few places last night to do some re-con: Napa Valley Grille, Palomino and Bar Food. Space-wise, I really like the patio for Napa Valley Grille, and I liked the variety of the happy hour menu AND the fact that on Sunday, their HH menu is available from open-to-close. That's really important for me as I think that my group may not make it there until 7:15 pm.

Thanks for the update. We like Napa Valley Grille and go for Sunday brunch when we can. Good to know about their happy hour on Sunday. I look forward to reading your HH "after action" report.

        2. Palomino's happy hour is good...good food, feels festive on weeknights (don't know about sunday). Lots of happy hour items are great for sharing.

          1. Bar Food on Wilshire just west of Bundy has an all day happy hour. It allows all ages inside. Food is pretty good as well. You might also want to check out the Agelina hotel right where you are. Not sure if they have a happy hour on Sunday but the usual happy hour at that place is very good as far as drink prices go.

Ah, yes, West at the Angeleno Hotel. It is indeed very close to the church and also to where I live. I've only been there for dinner, never to the lounge. I will go this week and check it out, thanks for reminding me about West!
