We had lunch there this past Sunday.

Can I say it was close to a religious experience without sounding like a heretic? <grin>

The drive from San Sebastian to Lasarte took a little less than a half hour. The restaurant was situated what looked to me a residential area. We get out of the car and get hit with a symphony of birds singing in the surrounding area. I was beginning to like this place.

We go up the stairs and the doors opened like we were the expected and awaited guests. I was won over.

Then we got seated and one if not the best dining experiences I ever had, began.

We decided to go with El Gran Menu Degustacion <155 Euros>, featuring Berasategui's 'greatest hits' beginning from 1995 to 2010.

We began ordering the wine Valbuena <Bodegas Vega Sicilia> an excellent choice, always.

We had 3 small appetizers portions of bacalao ahumado, milhojas de foie and salmon.

The small rationed main courses were caldo de txipiron, cannelone of tocino Iberico, Hinojo pearls in a rissotto, round cheese with aceite de carabaƱa with vegetables, wild egg with cabbage and vegetables, a salad of vegetables and seafood that looked like a Monet painting, salmonette and ending with pigeon cooked in an asador. All superb.

Desserts were essence of bay leaf sorbette in a lime granizado with touches of almonds and a chocolate honey concoction of acacia with bitter Irish coffee. Yummm.

Akelare, surely still phenomenal and unforgettable, has now been replaced by the ethereal MB as my favorite restaurant in all of Spain.
