Looking for a convenient and good sushi or japanese restaurant in San Diego
We are in San Diego for a conference and are out at the Sheraton Marina and Harbor with no
car. We'd like to have a good meal of sushi and/or japanese and could take the shuttle into the
airport and get a bus or taxi.
Any suggestions for moderately priced sushi, seafood or japanese would be great. Any suggestions for the transportation would be great too!

I'll second Point Loma Seafoods, but they're mostly a lunch crowd. Sushi Ota is great, but it's a decent cab ride, as are the places in the Convoy area.
If you want close, try Umi Sushi at 2806 Shelter Island Drive. It's about two miles away from your hotel. Not the cheapest, but decent sushi last time I visited.

take a taxi to Okan, Izakaya Sakura, Oton, Tsuruhashi Japanese BBQ or Yakyudori Ramen. They're all in the Convoy area (although Oton is a slightly further east by 5 minutes or so), all different types of Japanese and reasonably priced. All of them have threads on the board if you nee more details.
Shirahama is a traditional sushi bar on Convoy Ave. Considered 2nd best sushi in the county by the sushi experts on the board. Can't tell you about the prices though.

re: daantaat
daantaat's list is excellent. Each establishment is destination chow-worthy, and they offer experiences not readily available in many US cities. My personal favorites from the list are Izakaya Sakura, Okan and Otan. Unfortunately for you sandil, your hotel is somewhat isolated, and trying to use San Diego's mediocre public transportation to get to the Convoy area, would be arduous at best. You surely can take a cab, but the fare would easily pay for a budget rental car. If you want San Diego's more chow-worthy options from your location, you basically have two choices: rent a car, or get ready for some big time cab fares.

Point Loma Seafoods has a Sushi Deli and they are very close to your hotel. Their prices seem reasonable too. At least you know the fish at PLS is fresh. It is lunch or early dinner only. You order from the Fishmongers at the counter, and then sit at the ouside tables with a view of the Sportfishing Harbor.
