Saw this featured on the Chow blog this AM. I'm guessing if they're currently being grown only in Dutch greenhouses (the impression I get from the wording), we may be outta luck. Searched around on the internet a bit and the info was almost identically sourced. From the Netherlands to England for a strawberry-like fruit is do-able but obviously not all the way to LA. Burpee has plants of this fruit on sale for the first time in their new 2012 catalog & on their website.

No - I'm just saying that if you want to grow them yourself, Burpee has the plants.

The Wednesday Santa Monica FM is notorious for having vendors who offer some of the more rare and enticing produce items that get snapped up almost immediately after the FM officially starts. Sometimes they don't even last that long - the chefs often get first shot with many of the vendors even before the market officially opens. Growing one's own may be the only viable option until this item becomes more available...
