Recommendation for dinner with 4 college buddies catching up...

Looking for a spot with very good food, nice vibe (trendy is OK, but not loud like say STK), price flexible although rather keep it moderate, good drinks, nice mid 20s to early 30s crowd is a plus.

This is for a Fri night at around 8-9pm, so reservations at some of the places that came to mind have been a challenge.

The places that I'm considering are:

Kenmare (no ressies available)
Kingswood
The Breslin
DBGB

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Way too many choices. Any particular type of food you are looking for to help narrow things down? What area do you want to be in generally?

Probably can't err on the side of overly adventurous given the varied tastes. And no steakhouses or sushi. Location-wise, we'd like to stay below 14th Street.

"Location-wise, we'd like to stay below 14th Street."

I presume you know that The Breslin is on 29th St.?

We enjoyed the food at DBGB. The sausages we had were excellent. We were there for a late lunch midweek, so the huge dining room was nearly empty. However, our daughter and son-in-law were there on an evening when it was very busy and -- no surprise -- they said there was a lively vibe.

Realized it after I typed it. Below 14th is a preference just b/c I think it lends itself more to the vibe we're looking for. But it's not critical. Thanks for the DBGB info.

I would also say DBGB, which is excellent. Another good choice is Macelleria in the Meatpacking district. It's not the best steakhouse in NY but it does the trick and it's got a more current vibe.

I loved Kenmare when I just went; I'd keep trying on a res if you're interested. DBGB is also a cool spot, haven't been to the other two.

There's also Stanton Social, though I was not blown away the one time I went.

I did the same thing with a couple of college buddies last year and thoroughly enjoyed Otto. I thnk the food, drink and crowd are what you are looking for.
