New Job, New Area (Murray Hill, 31st and Park), Cheap Lunch Options PLEASE

Please provide me with cheap and tasty options. I've been to all the Indian Lunch buffets and LOVE them, and I often to go Murray Hill Deli (34th and Lex) for their huge and delicious sandwiches. Nothing else seems to be worth the money though.

Budget: Needs to be under $10, preferably closer to $5 (I'm an intern). I Need Options for:

-Sandwiches (the bigger the better)
-Pasta (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. Lots of pasta for cheap... some Deli's have build your own fresh pasta but its all so expensive.)
-Soup (Where is a small cup of soup less than $5 once tax is added?? Ridiculous!)
-Lunch specials anywhere for when I go with co-workers to a restaurant?
-Thai

Thanks so much!

Not cheap, but under $10 - walk over to No 7 sub at the Ace Hotel. Giant, delicious and award-winning sandwiches. I had the Cilantro Chicken last week, but gave the second 1/2 away (too full).

    Kati rolls from Roomali on Lex between 26th & 27th -- $5-$6

Kathi Rolls on Lex and 27th -- $5 (bigger than Roomali, IIRC

The lunch specials at Vezzo are fantastic. Lex and 31st --$5-$11
Great thin crust pizza (2 slices for $5), the salad and 1/2 chicken pesto sandwich is great for $8.

Super cheap and filling, walk over to Woorijip in Ktown on 32nd between 5th and B'way. Spicy pork and rice is like $5-$6 and you'll easily get 2 meals out of it.

A bit of a walk, but the grilled cheese at Birch Coffee is darn good:

If you order wisely at Pio Pio, you can have a really economical meal. There is the lunch special which is around 10 bucks that includes a quarter chicken, soda, salad and starchy side. But you'd get the most value if you order the whole chicken ($10) and a side ($4) and make a few meals out of them. Depending on how much you eat, you should get at least 2-4 meals. Or bring a friend and share. If you want to save on tip, you can do take-out.

If it is a nice day, take a walk to Defonte's for sandwiches.

Go to LASANI on 29th between 5th and Bradway - I cannot recommend it highly enough, the best chicken you'll get in NYC and the staff are lovely. Get a fresh roti bread steaming from the oven or a nan or an indulgent chappati. Their rice pudding is a breakfast treat with sweet chai or have the eggs and a nan for 3.50 - I'm not joking!!
